Filter Gallery
Destroying image information can make a truer image than the straightforward approach of sharper, clearer and more realistic imagery. The filter used to destroy image information affects some, most, or every part of what the original image conveyed. Different meanings can be made depending on which filter is used. When creating this album, I knew I wanted to use photos from the coffee shop I work at. However, I didn't know which type of filter to use because I didn't know what I wanted the photos to convey after a filter was used. So I started playing with different filters. The filters made my photos look dreamy, scary, childish, vintage, futuristic, grainy, western, unrealistic, etc. There were also filters to make my photos look like a mosaic, a poster, pixelated, painted, hand-drawn, dotty, blurry, etc. After going through all the filters in Photoshop and other programs, I decided on a color separation filter. This filter basically makes a photo look like it should be looked at with 3D glasses. It allowed me to choose 2 colors and decide on their horizontal or vertical offset. As I edited my photos with this effect, I realized my photos looked unrealistic and dreamy. Some of my photos look like a drunk person is making coffee drinks, which is interesting because making these drinks is very difficult and could probably not be done under the influence.
